Abstract

ABSTRACK This study seeks to reveal the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) in the political competition in Bali in 1999-2019. The change in the power system from the New Order to the Reformation has resulted in significant changes in the political system. At the local political level in Bali there is a shift in political power. Previously, during the New Order era, political power was controlled by Golkar, now it has begun to shift to the PDI-P.

The problems discussed in this study are (1) how was the PDI-P’s role in political competition in Bali from 1999-2019 (2) Why PDI-P managed to emerge as a competitor in political competition in Bali (3) What was the competition from the success of the PDI -P emerged as the dominant party in Bali. This study uses historical theory, especially historical explanations and historical cause and effect as well as theoretical assistance from social science, namely Leadership from Antonio Gramsci.

The results show that throughout the post-New Order election, PDI-P managed to emerge as the dominant party in Bali from 1999-2019. The success of the PDI-P to emerge as the dominant party in Bali is inseparable from the success of the PDI-P in utilizing the symbolic capital of the past as Soekarno’s party, the PDI-P has also succeeded in building a system of alliances with various community groups that provide political support, and the PDI-P has succeeded in reforming the system. party organization. this had implications for the success of the PDI-P in realizing the party’s agenda. The political landscape in Bali witnessed a significant shift in power dynamics after the fall of the New Order regime in Indonesia. The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) emerged as a prominent player in the political competition from 1999 to 2019, challenging the long-standing dominance of Golkar.

Previously, Golkar had wielded considerable political power in the region. However, with the changing political climate, PDI-P emerged as a viable competitor, challenging the established order. Understanding the shift in political power is crucial to comprehend the rise of PDI-P.

Throughout the period from 1999 to 2019, PDI-P played a pivotal role in Bali’s political competition. This section analyzes the multifaceted contributions of PDI-P to the region’s political landscape. By employing historical explanations and cause-and-effect analysis, this study elucidates the key factors that enabled PDI-P to establish its dominance.

The success of PDI-P as a dominant political party in Bali can be attributed to several crucial factors. Firstly, PDI-P effectively utilized its symbolic capital, tracing its roots back to Soekarno’s party, which resonated with the people of Bali. Secondly, the party formed strategic alliances with diverse community groups, bolstering its political support base. Lastly, the PDI-P undertook significant reforms within its party organization, strengthening its structure and ensuring effective implementation of its agenda.

The dominance of PDI-P in Bali had far-reaching implications for the region. This section delves into the consequences of PDI-P’s success and its impact on Bali’s political, social, and economic landscape. By analyzing the party’s agenda and policy implementations, the study provides insights into the party’s governance and its effect on the lives of Balinese citizens.
