The study employs qualitative methods, including interviews, observation, literature review, and document analysis, to explore the various forms of local community participation. The analysis reveals that the local communities engage in two primary forms of participation: creating and showcasing new tourist attractions and preserving the existing ones. This active involvement allows them to contribute to the overall development and preservation of Jakarta’s Old Town.
Several factors influence the level of community participation in the development of Jakarta’s Old Town. These factors can be categorized into supporting factors and obstacles. Supporting factors include government initiatives, community empowerment programs, and the availability of resources and infrastructure.
